6 Healthy Relationship Books That Will Actually Improve Your Relationships & Communication

When you’re ready to grow, your bookshelf should be, too.

As a licensed therapist and relationship coach, I’ve personally and professionally seen what an impact the right relationship books can have on shifting perspectives, understanding each other better, and opening up the door to healthy communication.

Below is my curated list of healthy relationship books. These are the ones I recommend to clients, have dog-eared on my own shelf, and return to again and again.

You’ll find some of these on the Amazon Bestsellers list for Healthy Relationship Books

Don’t have time to read? Get the audiobook!

Listening is my personal favorite way to read - and possibly the ONLY  way I’ll actually read anything these days. Many audiobooks are now available on a premium Spotify account, as well as the usual places like Audible.

Ready to dive in? Here we go…

1. Attached by Amir Levine + Rachel Heller

This book helps you identify your attachment style and find ways to bridge the gap with partners who may have a different attachment style. It ultimately awakens more awareness in how we show up in relationships and the wisdom behind it.

2. How to Not Hate Your Husband After Having Kids by Jancee Dunn

I love this book for anyone who’s beginning their journey as parents. It’s funny and gives really practical tools to help navigate the challenges children can place on a relationship—and ways to keep nourishing your connection instead of letting resentment grow.

3. The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman

This guide helps you and your partner discover how you each receive and feel loved, making it easier to invest in your relationship in meaningful ways.

4. The Hold Me Tight Workbook: A Couple's Guide for a Lifetime of Love by Dr. Sue Johnson

This is a great resource to help reach out to your partner and have deep and connected conversations by using different prompts, exercises, and activities. To me, this is a must-read for newlyweds.

5. When Things Fall Apart by Pema Chodron

This book was a lifesaver to me when I was going through my divorce – helping me to find some peace and clarity during an unimaginable time. I highly recommend it to people who are dealing with any painful transitions.

6. Healing After Loss by Martha Whitmore Hickman

When we lose significant people in our lives it is not only a sad experience but also one that can leave you feeling untethered and alone. This book is a daily guide to support you and offer something to do as you heal from grief and loss.

Remember:

Books don’t solve relationships, but they can spark the conversations, clarity, and courage to change them. Whether you read one of these alone, with a partner, or in therapy. It’s a step toward something better.

And if you’re ready to go deeper, I’d love to support you.
